2018 Mid-Autumn Festival in Phan Thiet

The theme of the Mid-Autumn Festival this year is: “Phan Thiet’s children - enjoying the Mid-Autumn Festival – Studying hard – Being happy and creative – Following Uncle Ho’s words.” The festival will be held at 18:00 on 21 September 2018 (12 August on the Lunar Calendar) at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square, Phan Thiet.

The event is an annual traditional activity. The festival not only creates a healthy and useful activity for local children welcoming the new school year, but also creates a beautiful cultural experience for citizens and tourists. The government of Binh Thuan Province has chosen the Mid-Autumn Festival as one of the six largest traditional Vietnamese festivals that can be used to promote tourism in the province.

Mr. Vo Van Thong, Vice-President of the People’s Committee of Phan Thiet City says that the city has 18 wards and that students from all the local primary and secondary schools will each bring one or two big lanterns (not more than 3 meters in width, and 4 meters in height), plus 50 to 100 small handmade candlelight lanterns (not more than 60 centimeters in width and 40 centimeters in height). A highlight of this year's festival is that the big lanterns will be made with the support of the committees from each of the wards and communes.

The route of this event stretches 2,900 meters along the main streets of Nguyen Tat Thanh Square, Ton Duc Thang, Thu Khoa Huan, Tran Hung Dao and Nguyen Du. The opening ceremony will include a children’s art performance, followed by a description of the events, an introduction of delegates, a reading of the letter of congratulations from the president, the announcement that the festival has begun, an opening drum performance, gifts for children and the commencement of the parade around the city.
